To Good to be True

To Good to be True

A situation of "we knew it could not be good for us, but..." the FDA is reviewing the impact of supercharged energy drinks to us and our health.  I am not a fan of telling you what you can and cannot do as an adult, but it is nice to be able to make knowledgeable decisions for ourselves.  There are too many children treating these drinks like it is a thirst quencher.  Just like loud music, these drinks could have serious implications on a developing body as our children mature.

Please stay aware and as an adult you are free to do as you wish if it does not injure another, however for our youth lets educate them about the dangers of items such as these "energy drinks."

Very Truly,
Tom Winslow

FDA to commission outside review on energy drinks.

The New York Times (11/28, B7, Meier, Subscription Publication, 1.68M) reports that the Food and Drug Administration released a letter Tuesday, saying it would likely "seek advice from outside experts to help determine whether energy drinks posed particular risks to teenagers or people with underlying health problems." Although the agency has previously said it was "investigating possible risks posed by popular products like 5-Hour Energy, Monster Energy and Red Bull," FDA spokesperson Shelly Burgess "said the new letter was the first time that the FDA had said it might turn to outside experts." The letter, which was sent to Democratic Sens. Richard J. Durbin (IL) and Richard Blumenthal (CT), "follows disclosures that the agency received reports of 18 deaths and over 150 injuries that mentioned the possible involvement of energy drinks."
The AP (11/28) adds that the letter, which was sent on Nov. 21, "said that the FDA was studying energy drinks to see if they posed a risk when consumed by 'vulnerable groups' such as young people, or in excess - but it did not indicate that any immediate action would be taken against the drinks makers." In the letter, the FDA also "said there is no scientific literature that calls into question the safety of taurine and guarana, two ingredients often used in energy drinks." Sens. Durbin and Blumenthal had asked the agency to "look further into the health impact of energy drinks."
According to CQ (11/28, Lorber, Lesniewski, Subscription Publication), the FDA's letter "took some pressure to elicit." Sens. Durbin and Blumenthal "sent four letters to the agency" regarding energy drinks. A "Durbin aide said the senators found the original response insufficient." The Financial Times (11/28, Rappeport, Subscription Publication, 448K) also covers the story.
Senators urge agency to act now. The Wall Street Journal (11/28, Esterl, Subscription Publication, 2.29M) reports Sens. Durbin and Blumenthal responded to the FDA letter in a joint statement released Tuesday. Quoting from the statement, the Journal noted that the senators lauded the FDA for undertaking a review on the potential impact of energy drinks on the health of children and adolescents, but emphasized that "more needs to be done and quickly."
Bloomberg News (11/27, Edney, 1M) adds that in their statement, Durbin and Blumenthal said the FDA "can and should take action now to regulate energy drinks that are marketed as beverages."
Separately, Bloomberg News (11/27, Stanford, Edney, 1M) notes that Goldman Sachs analyst Judy Hong issued a client note Tuesday, noting that the FDA's responses to the senators "questions over the safety" of energy drinks was "encouraging" and predicting that any "regulatory outcome" from the pending review is "likely to be 'benign.'"

District 103 results

We came up short last night, but we respect the choice the residents of District 103 have made.  We will pray that things change and we see progress through principled actions and morally guided decisions.  Let's unite to create a great Georgetown; to get the port dredged, roads completed, and new jobs created.

I will continue to be here for the people of 103 and Georgetown should there be anything I can do for you.  Please let me know.  All of my information is on the www.winwithwinslow.com webpage.

God Bless, Tom

Check Tom Winslow November 6

The time is finally upon us as we move to the polls casting our selection for who we believe will serve us according to our morals, the principles of our founding fathers, and the Word of God.  The right to vote is one of the most sacred privileges we have, along with the right to bear arms, free speech, jury trials, and the right to pursue happiness.  I encourage each of you to vote, have your families vote, and have your friends vote.  This is your chance to pick your employee, the person who will speak for you over the next few years.  Please reach out to 10 people over the next 2 days and ask them to check Tom Winslow on the ballot.  Then have them call 10 of their friends to do the same and on and on.

Take the time to learn about those people you want to hire; just like you would with an employee in your business.  If the current employee is not working, make a change.  In District 103 we do not need to wait another 8 years for the port to get dredged, roads to get widened, businesses to arrive, and new jobs to appear.  The time is now – please consider voting for me in 103.

As a petition candidate, I fought to get back on the ballot and I will fight for you.  Please, go to the SC House District 103 race and check my name.

If you think it is time to have a Representative of your interest in office the time is now.  Don’t delay, vote right away.

Win With Winslow!

Thank you, Tom Winslow

Endorsement of Tom Winslow, SC House District 103

Endorsement of Tom Winslow, SC House District 103

It is with great pleasure that I announce the many endorsements we have received in our run for South Carolina House Seat 103. Recently, Senator Jim DeMint visited Georgetown County and threw his full support behind Tom Winslow. Sen. DeMint stated that "Tom has true Conservative morals and I fully support him for SC House Seat 103."

He joins the long list of respected political and community figures who have pledged their support of Tom Winslow in House Seat 103. Some of those figures include Governor Nikki Haley, 7th Congressional  Candidate Tom Rice, County Councilman Ron Charlton, City Councilman Paige Sawyer, the past Lt. Governor Andre Bauer, Jim Jerow, Ted Quantz, State House seat 108 candidate Stephan Goldfinch, Roland Lambert, RL Port, past Congressional Candidate Jim Madder, past Congressional Candidate Jay Jordan, SC State Representative Alan Clements, and many local business owners including Tim Tilley, owner of EnviroSep and chairman of the Georgetown County Economic Development Alliance and the Alliance's Port Dredging Task Force.

Tim Tilley previously stated "that Georgetown County's House Delegation is one of the weakest House delegations in the entire state and that we must elect someone who is willing to work hard for the people of Georgetown and District 103."

Jim Madder added to the endorsement of Tim Tilley saying, "so many times in the past we have had to settle for voting against someone, instead of voting for someone. This year is different. This year the voters have a chance to vote for Tom Winslow, who not only talks the talk, but also walks the walk. Tom Winslow is the candidate to vote for this November 6th."

These comments could not be truer according to business owner, past Congressional Candidate, and Christian Jay Jordan. "I have known Tom for many years; he is a man of integrity, a Christian at heart, and an advocate for the people he represents every day. He has the tools to bring to Georgetown and the people of 103 the jobs and infrastructure they need."

The endorsements do not stop coming in, nor does the support from voters who say they have or will check his name November 6, 2012.

Thank you for your continued support.

Campaign 2012 Contributions

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Last week each candidate was required to submit their campaign finances to the South Carolina Ethics Commission which is made public.  This is a great source of information for all voters to learn about whether their candidate is receiving the support of the community.  I am proud to announce that we reached our fundraising goal of $10,000 in the race with 63 individual contributions from people that care about this community.  That is 78% of all contributions came from within Georgetown County from people and businesses that say it is time for a change.

We intentionally did not reach out to any PAC’s or other special interest groups; however we did receive one unsolicited contribution from The Palmetto Patriot Leadership Committee which is led by State Representative Alan Clemmons.

In contrast, we put all of Carl Anderson's 2012 election cycle contributions in a spreadsheet for analysis and found a few things that you might want to take a look at:

Out of the $25,639 Anderson raised for the cycle, only $1,150 or 4.5 percent came from within Georgetown County. Those contributions are highlighted in green below.

Only $800 or 3 percent of the total raised came from within District 103: E-Z Car Rental ($500), Charles Smith ($100), and John Hilliard ($200).

So in the last two years in office, Anderson was only able to attract three campaign contributions totaling just $800 from the people that know him the best, his constituents.  The lack of support Mr. Anderson is receiving is staggering.

Mr. Anderson is beholden to special interests groups, not his constituents. Out of state corporations, pay day lenders, unions, and special interest PACs represent nearly all of the contributions to his campaign.  It is no wonder Mr. Anderson has been nearly invisible this election year.

Just for example, Mr. Anderson took $1,500 in contributions from the SC Health Care PAC, $500 more than allowed by law for the election cycle based on the fact that he had no primary and just a general election. Those contributions are highlighted in yellow above.

Just like the use of the state plane, I must once again call on Mr. Anderson to return the money for the illegal contribution.  We must elect a Representative that supports our morals, principles, and abides by the same fiscal responsibility we all must on a day to day basis.  That is why I urge you to check the name Tom Winslow for District 103.
